Dawn Brady Carpino has been chosen as the Grand Marshal of the 26th edition of the “Old Neighborhood” St. Patrick’s Day Parade and will lead the procession through the historic streets of the Valley and Old First Ward neighborhoods on Saturday, March 16th, 2019.

About Dawn Brady Carpino:

Dawn Brady Carpino of Saint Stephen’s Place is one of seven children born to John and Theodora Brady. She is a graduate of both Buffalo Public School 33 and South Park High School. She met her husband, Joseph Carpino, in 1963 and they were married 10 years later at St Thomas Episcopal Cathedral on South Park Avenue. She is the proud mother of Joe (Kerri) and Jim (Sharlyn), and grandmother to Kayla, Noah, and Violet.

Before retiring in 2012, Dawn worked as a crossing guard for 30 years. In the 1970s she served as PTO president at Buffalo Public School #33 where she fought to get their cafeteria built with an independent study on lead paint and support from then Buffalo Mayor Jimmy Griffin.

Since 1980, Dawn has been very involved in her church, Full Gospel Tabernacle, where she previously taught Sunday school and district leadership for South Buffalo.

Dawn Brady Carpino and the VCA:

Dawn assisted in starting the first Valley Center at the corner of South Park and Smith Street with her sister Laura Ball, who was an officer and one of the founders of the Valley Community Association. In 1988, she teamed up with members of the community to launch a drug prevention program at the Center called P.A.D – People Against Drugs, and officially came on board as a Valley staff member, working in the afterschool program. Dawn went beyond the call of duty in her position and volunteered with weekend youth activities like dances, camping, and taking students to shows in Niagara Falls and Toronto.

Today, Dawn is active in both VCA’s senior programming and fund raising efforts. She dedicates her time to making baskets for Valley’s annual basket raffle, decorating for events such as the “Old Neighborhood” St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Senior Christmas Party, assisting with the children’s Easter Egg hunt, and even uses her weekends to help prepare food for senior weekday lunches.

Dawn has been a guiding force for generations of children and would do anything for the VCA.

In Celebration:

The Valley Community Association will formally announce Dawn as Grand Marshal along with the Parade Dedications for the 26 Annual “Old Neighborhood” St. Patrick’s Day Parade at their Fundraiser Party on Saturday, March 9>, 2019.  The party will be held at the Valley Center located at 93 Leddy Street, Buffalo, near the junction of South Park Avenue and Elk Street from 7pm-11pm.  The cost is just $20 per person and includes admission, draft beer, and pop.
