Overview
Join our dynamic educational team as an Education Liaison, where you will serve as a vital connector between educational institutions, students, families, and community partners. As an Education Liaison, you will champion collaboration, support curriculum development, and ensure the smooth operation of educational initiatives that empower learners and educators alike.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the academic component of the after school program and supervise tutoring.
- Coordinate curriculum with partner schools, ensuring that materials used in the after school program correlates to what is being done during the school day. Create a curriculum designed to meet student goals based on grade level, developmental stages, and NYS Next Generation Learning Standards.
- Track individual students progress through communication with teachers. Inquire into the status of those children falling behind and what the VCA can do to assist them.
- Collect report cards and progress reports and track the grades of participating children. Highlight and notate the weak areas of particular children and communicate the information to the tutors so that extra help is offered.
- Communicate with teachers regarding the progress of participating children, including obtaining testing scores. Maintain records of open channels of contact via phone calls, email, fax, face-to-face meetings, etc. regarding student’s progress.
- Communicate with parents regarding the progress of their child in the program.
- Coordinate with parents and teachers regarding students with IEP’s.
- Attend events at partner schools to maintain and strengthen relationships.
- Assist tutors with helping children complete homework on an as needed basis during the after school program. Fill in classrooms as needed to maintain appropriate supervision and program operations.
- Supervise children during arrival, announcements, and snack time to help maintain required staff-to-child ratios. Assist with transitions by escorting children to their assigned classrooms and program blocks.
- Develop and maintain daily tutor schedules, assigning tutors to classrooms and student groups based on program needs, enrollment, staffing levels, and academic support requirements.
- Prepare worksheets, kits, daily activities, and materials for extended learning opportunities during the after school program.
- Record daily attendance for all lessons.
- Become familiar with New York State OCFS rules and regulations to ensure compliance and effectively support program operations in the absence of the Director of Youth Services.
Experience
- Strong reading, writing, mathematical, and communication skills, as well as exemplary time management and organizational skills are required. for this position Previous experience working with youth in grades K-8 is preferred and a program management background is required.
- The ability to establish positive relationships youth, parents, staff, school day school, community stakeholders, and funders is a critical component of this position.
- A strong sense of commitment and reliability are essential.
- The ability to work as a strong team member is necessary.
- An understanding of NYS Next Generation Learning Standards is required.
- Must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree with extensive experience although Bachelors or Masters degrees are preferred.
- Demonstrated success in program development, team management, and personnel supervision within educational settings preferred.
- Extensive background working with students across different age groups.
- Strong writing skills for preparing reports, proposals, correspondence, and instructional materials.
- Previous experience in school experience or childcare settings is highly desirable.
- Ability to lead teams effectively while managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
