Job Title: Business Manager
FLSA Status: Hourly Non-Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director

Pay Rate: $21 – $25 / hour based on experience

Position Summary:

Responsible for day-to-day management of the financial, personnel, and administration functions of the Valley Center and its affiliates. Ensures that all business office, financial, accounting, clerical and human resources procedures and policies are followed.

Essential Functions:

  1. Manages all processes and the administration of the business office. Ensures that all month-end reports are prepared, analyzed and distributed for closing each month.
  2. Responsible for the sales and use tax accrual, filing, and payment.  
  3. Manages and maintains employee records, including attendance and payroll. Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of personnel paperwork and time recording for payroll.  Ensures that all personnel policies and procedures are communicated and enforced.  Provides advice and consultation to management regarding human resources, including on-boarding and performance management.
  4. Responsible for the center’s accounts receivable. Responsible for accurate billing, collections, reconciliation and cash applications.  Ensures the daily deposit of all cash and checks.
  5. Manages the order process, check requests, credit card and distribution of petty cash.
  6. Provides administrative support for meetings and events. Attends meetings and prepares meeting minutes as assigned.
  7. Ensures an adequate inventory of office supplies and the necessary equipment to perform clerical tasks.
  8. Manages, coordinates and supports the organizations external annual audit and compliance.
  9. Maintains a safe and attractive office environment which meets Center standards.
  10. Coordinates business functions of special events, fundraisers, and other similar events for the Valley Center and BRFP.
  11. Assists the Administration Team with oversight of daily operations.
  12. Ensures that customer service and cleanliness standards are met. Responds appropriately and timely to inquiries, complaints, and emergencies.  Provides direction to staff.  Ensures a safe and clean environment for members, participants, and volunteers. 
  13. Serves as a member of the Administration Team and supports the overall objectives and mission of the Valley Community Association.
  14. Carries out other tasks, finance projects and administration duties as assigned.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  2. Five or more years of business and/or office management experience.
  3. Experience with cash and accrual accounting concepts as well as applications including cash management, cash reconciliation, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  4. Ability to direct assigned operations including supervision and development of staff and volunteers.
  5. Experience with standard business software and office equipment.
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Quickbooks.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  8. Ability to use analytical, interpretative and evaluative thought in making decisions and solving problems.
  9. Ability to work both autonomously when necessary as well as in a group work environment.
  10. Ability to provide a positive, informative, and welcoming person-centered experience for all.
  11. Experience working with diverse populations.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This is a full-facility Community Center located on one floor. The environment is fast-paced with a focus on youth and family recreational community programs.

Responsibilities require a flexible work schedule with possible evening/weekend hours and may require travel to various locations. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to: walk, stand, climb stairs, sit, listen, speak, have finger dexterity, hear and have visual acuity. May need to lift, push and pull.
